Launch of the MIPEX-R Webpage and REGIN Integration Lab Database and Map

Currently there exist several indicator-based projects to analyse migrant integration data at national and local levels, but there lacks a common evidence-based framework for policy evaluation at regional level, despite the crucial role regions have in migrant integration. Furthermore, there exist many examples of integration practices at local level (cities and municipalities) but not as many at regional level. Another challenge reflected when analysing migrant integration at regional and local levels is the lack of monitoring & evaluation tools, as well as the lack of standards or benchmark in this field.

Developed as interconnected and integrated tools, the launch of the MIPEX-Regions (MIPEX-R) webpage and Integration Lab database and map aims to help fill these gaps:

• MIPEX-R represents an adaptation of the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), moving beyond the nation-state paradigm towards a more subnational focus upon migrant integration. On the MIPEX-R webpage, the results for policy indicators for the six REGIN regional partners (Azores, Campania, Catalonia, Murcia, Puglia and Skåne), are currently available related to the policy cycle, governance and integration measures for third country nationals (TCN) and beneficiaries of international protection (BIP).
• The Integration Lab database and map is designed to be a mutual learning tool to share experiences on migrant integration at regional level, highlighting for each practice the lessons learnt and tips for transferability. In each practice, the contribution of the regional authority, either directly or indirectly through social actors, is emphasised. The REGIN Evaluation Framework focuses on 7 crucial aspects of migrant integration – Communication, Inclusion, Innovation, Multi-Level Governance, Multi-Stakeholder Approach, Monitoring & Evaluation and Sustainability – highlighting inspiring elements and room for improvement for each practice. Currently displaying 15 examples of regional integration practices, regions and their stakeholders interested in proposing their own examples to be featured on the REGIN Integration Lab, are welcome to fill-in the template and survey questionnaire – developed as part of the REGIN Project and available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish.
