REGIN project

Resources for regions

For the EU, successful migrant integration into European societies is crucial to increasing the opportunities of regular migration and making the most of the contributions that immigration can bring to EU development.
The role of local and regional authorities in the integration process is crucial, as most integration measures are implemented at local level and are key to fostering inclusion and mutual trust.

However, regions have to deal with several challenges, such as lack of experience or knowledge in the field, lack of human and financial resources, and a political and a societal environment unfavourable to migrant integration.

REGIN aims to develop tools to help regions to collaborate across levels of government and civil society to apply more coherent integration policies.

REGIN represents an opportunity to adapt the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), previously produced by CIDOB and MPG, to the regional level as MIPEX-R – that stands for MIPEX- Regions – to measure the effectiveness of integration policies and outcomes at regional level.

REGIN will implement an innovative toolkit for regional governments, through capacity-building for key stakeholders in receiving communities and tailored training for regional staff to support them in strengthening integration services. An evaluation framework will be developed and tested on targeted actions conducted in the pilot regions.

REGIN will identify and monitor practices and experiences on migrants’ and refugees’ integration at regional level with a focus on learning processes. Innovative tailor-made integration actions in the partner regions, a test bed on health equity and social inclusion and database and map of integration practices will all provide sources of mutual learning between regions.
